Our History and Aims

Our History

ABILITY Education has its roots in a college founded in 1996. However, the ABILITY story really begins in 2006 when AG Mate Academy was bought by Joe Chadwick and James Huey. Their vision and the efforts of the core management team transformed the college into a provider of what we consider to be one of the best all round experiences for international English language students.

The school moved location to its present bright, sunny premises near Sydney’s Central Station. Over the next 3 years, the ABILITY team continually strived to improve the high standard of its teaching and curriculum as well as our services for students and our school facilities.

We developed a Student Service team to support our students so they always have advice and help when they have problems (whether inside the school or outside). Our Student Services people run job seminars to help prepare students to find part time work. They also coordinate a range of student activities so students can make friends quickly – and practise their English.

ABILITY Education’s school facilities have continually improved. Our classrooms are pleasant. We provide plenty of computers and students have access to our free internet wireless service. As well, students have the use of lots of microwave ovens so that they can prepare their lunch at school and we supply free tea and coffee.

In 2007, we opened a second campus in Sydney, near beautiful and central Hyde Park. Early in 2009, we expanded further, establishing a campus in Melbourne.

In September 2009, ABILITY Education joined MEGT (Australia) Ltd, one of the larger Australian providers of private vocational education and employment services. MEGT is the largest provider of apprenticeship support services across Australia and is considered a leader in group training labour-hire services.

For the future, we aim to continue to deliver a warm, friendly learning environment and our high quality education, student services and student social activities. We will continue to go all-out to ensure that our students receive the best possible whole experience of learning and life during their time in Australia.

  • Testimonials

    Junko Banno, Japan

"Junko Bunno, JapanI chose this school because when I visited, there was a friendly atmosphere. Now I am taking the Cambridge CAE course so I have to study intensively to pass the exam, but this course is also really useful for improving all my skills in English (speaking, listening, writing, reading and grammar). My teachers are very kind and teach very well so I am happy to be studying in this class. Also, my classmates come from different countries, and I'm enjoying learning about other cultures too."
