For day courses any level is accepted from complete beginner to advanced. For evening courses currently our lowest level is pre-intermediate. Students must be pre-intermediate or higher. If you are not sure of your level we can send you an entry test
Our Recommendation:
For students with all levels of English who wish to improve their communication skills with a strong emphasis on speaking. General English Intensive is ideal for students who wish to improve their English more comprehensively.

General English - Course description
At ABILITY Education we offer 3 types of General English:- General English Intensive, 23 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- General English Standard, 20 hours per week, Monday to Thursday
- General English Standard Evening, 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday
What is the difference between the 3 types of General English?
All three courses contain the 20 hour face to face General English program.- General English Intensive and General English Standard provide the General English program over 4 days with 5 hour face to face classes, Monday to Thursday.
- General English Standard Evening provides the General English program over 5 nights with 4 hours of face to face teaching.
GE FlexABILITY Timetables
Day Course
As of 1 January 2010 at ABILITY Education we have 2 different start times for our day courses:
- Timetable 1: start: 8.30am, finish 2.30pm
- Timetable 2: start 9.00am, finish 3.00pm
Evening course
- Start: 4.00pm, finish 8.30pm
Courses and levels start at different times. The student’s timetable will depend on the course type and the level of the student. You will be told your start time on your first day.
Because students have different break times they have even more access to:

Description of GE Levels
Beginner to Lower Elementary
At this level, students learn basic vocabulary, simple verbs and common phrases to use in everyday life. Students can survive in an English-speaking city.
Elementary
At this level, students increase their vocabulary and learn to use different tenses.
Pre-Intermediate
At this level, students build on the skills they have learnt in the elementary level, learning more complex sentences. More reading and writing is introduced.
Intermediate
At this level, students build on the skills learnt in pre-intermediate, studying more complex sentences using modal and conditional forms. In their speaking, they learn to agree, disagree and politely complain. In writing, students make comparisons and learn new writing styles, such as job application letters.
Upper-Intermediate
At this level all tenses are used and students are expected to compare and choose the correct form. Students take part in discussions about a wide range of issues as well as reading and comprehending a variety of texts. The writing session includes research and report preparation and writing formal letters.
Advanced
At this level, students in this class have a good grasp of the English language but need to refine their use of the language. All the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are taken to a higher level.
Friday classes for General English Intensive
MasterSkills workshops: The difference between General English Intensive and GE Standard is our unique Masterskill workshops offered on Fridays. The benefits of the MasterSkills are:
- MasterSkills help students learn English faster
- They are well designed classes offering more intensive study is specific skill areas such as writing, grammar, pronunciation etc
- MasterSkills offer practical strategies on how to study more efficiently
- 3 hour tuition
TOEIC: is a language proficiency test measuring the everyday skills of people working in an international environment. Students learn the vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening skills needed to obtain a high TOEIC score. TOEIC is an optional component of the General English intensive course. Students can choose to study TOEIC on Fridays. Available in Sydney only.
