PSP - Course Description
ABILITY Education offers a special Primary School Preparation program of intensive tuition to boost the English language skills of young people aged from 7 to 11 years. The PSP course is designed to suit students visiting Australia on a tourist visa, usually during their school vacations – so that they can use some or all of their holiday time here in Australia to study English.
The prime focus is on English tuition, but the course aims to include lessons focusing on subjects such as mathematics, geography and Australian studies.
The emphasis for PSP students is on ‘active learning’ where English tuition is followed by hands-on activities such as arts, crafts and excursions to reinforce learning. The range of weekly excursions includes visits to the Sydney Aquarium and Sydney Wildlife World, the Maritime Museum and the Sydney Tower.
At ABILITY Education, we make a special effort to ensure that our young PSP students feel cared for, highly valued and a close part of the ABILITY Education family. Our PSP students always receive the particular attention needed by younger people away from home.
ABILITY Education’s Primary School Preparation program offers:
- highly qualified, experienced and caring teachers
- our unique primary school based English syllabus
- a constantly supervised school environment, ensuring the safety and welfare of our younger students
- a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere, especially suited for helping young people to feel at home and to improve their English confidently. Each of our teachers, supported by others in the college, takes responsibility for the personal and social wellbeing of PSP course children under their care
- an approach to English teaching which focuses on meaningful, useful communication. For example: students are given tasks to develop functional English language skills, such as asking permission or requesting directions. As well, students are helped with structural English language development, including grammar
- regular excursions chosen to reflect course themes and to reinforce the topics studied by students during class time
- weekly formal assessment every Friday of each student’s progress
