Why EAP? | The EAP course is a 12 week program which prepares students for studying at a university or specialised colleges. Students who pass our course can gain direct entry into our affiliated colleges and universities without having to do an IELTS test. This course prepares students for lecture note-taking and comprehension, giving formal presentations, tutorial discussion and debate, writing academic essays, plus comprehension and analysis of formal texts. This is a great course for students who wish to further their studies in Australia or for students who would like the extra challenge to improve their English. This course which may be entered in either week 1 or week 7 of the course. |

| Lesson 1 9.00 -10:40 am | Reading Activities, Academic Encounters: Introduction to weekly topic from Academic Encounters: Previewing the unit, discussion, preparing to read, post-reading tasks* | Genre Essay Writing, EAP Now!: EAP Now! weekly genre essay scaffold: model, analysis, followed by joint and individual constructions of text. | Academic IELTS Reading Practice, Various IELTS Books: IELTS Reading test strategies revised, then timed IELTS Reading test given. | Elements of Writing, Writing Academic English, Various Grammar Books: Writing Academic English: practice of weekly elements of writing. | Students choose from: • IELTS Mock Exam (greatly encouraged!) • General Ability Education Option Classes (eg conversation, grammar, excursion, movie class) • Completion of weekly essay and presentation at school or at home |

Weekly 250 word essay task given (either from Academic Encounters weekly chapter or a genre essay from EAP Now!), and plan written in class. | |
