Your time at Ability Education will prepare you for entry to your chosen Australian high school by helping raise your knowledge of key high school subjects such as science, social studies, Australian studies, mathematics and geography. You will advance your English language skills thoroughly by developing your knowledge of these key high school subjects. To prepare you for your future high school environment, Ability Education’s HSP program, just like any high school, has procedures, rules and regulations that students must follow. This will develop your understanding of your rights and responsibilities as a high school citizen and so make easier your transition into the Australian public or private education system.
What we do:We provide a program that:
  • provides English language preparation for entry to high schools in Australia
  • provides English preparation for students wishing to commence Years 7 – 11
  • teaches English through a syllabus designed around the key learning areas of Years 7-11 including Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) and Commerce
  • advises and assist students with their choice of and application for public and private high schools in the Sydney area

How we do it:Our High School Preparation program is superior because of
  • highly qualified, experienced and caring teachers.
  • our unique high school based English syllabus.
  • each student receives individual counselling and academic intervention, if required.
  • supervised ‘afternoon study’ periods allowing one-to-one teacher tutoring.
  • a unique Pastoral dimension to our school climate and an integrated Pastoral Care Program focusing on the development of life skills such as integrating & belonging, friendship, assertiveness, communication skills, influences and decisions, and personal safety.
  • a focus on the Communicative Approach to English teaching where meaningful communication is most important and where students are given tasks to develop functional development (asking permission, asking directions, etc.) and to reinforce structural development (past tense, conditionals, etc.).
  • two excursions every month chosen to reflect the themes and to reinforce the topics studied by students during class time.
  • weekly and monthly formal assessment of every student.
Time: 9am – 3.20pm
Hours per week: 25 hours, Monday to Friday
Class size:Maximum 15 students per class. Average class size 13 – 14 students
Intake: Every Monday
Course prerequisite:Ability to read/ write the English alphabet and take part in simple conversations.
