Every Friday morning ABILITY English has 3 hours of optional classes for students in our Study Choices program. These classes support your English learning and practice. We offer a variety of choices so that you can choose your program each week to personalise your English development.

The Study Choice options are a mix of social study and serious study. Some of the courses we offer in our Study Choices Program are:

Conversation club

In the conversation club you will improve your speaking and listening in a vibrant atmosphere, practicing everyday English. You will learn new vocabulary, learn to speak ‘real English’, improve your pronunciation and gain confidence for the outside world.

DVD club

In the DVD club you will watch movies in English and train your listening towards English sounds and accents. You will learn real English vocabulary and idioms, and learn listening techniques to help when you don’t understand everything.

Board-games

Board-games are fun and engaging way to practice speaking English and learn more vocabulary and expressions.  A teacher will prepare different board-game workshops to focus on building your vocabulary, your ability to be quick using English and your ability to be understood when you speak.

Music and listening

These lessons involve all four English skills using music. Come and listen to songs and interviews with musicians, read articles and debate ideas about music. You will even get to practice making music – all in English.

Media studies

This class teaches you English using different media common in Australia. We will teach you techniques on how to better understand and use them to expand your English knowledge. You will read, listen to and talk about different media such as websites, newspapers, TV programs and radio shows.

Sports

Learn English in a more relaxing way with teamwork and conversations in English. We will teach you Australian sports’ rules and work on your team building in English.

Vocabulary for real life

Worried that you don’t understand Australian slang? Do idioms and colloquial language confuse you? In this class we will give you the tools to be understood on the street and in everyday life in Australia.

Business

Come and learn business techniques in English: How to conduct a business meeting, practice phone calls and learn the vocabulary you need to work in an international company. In this class you will be given the tools to express yourself and to be understood by native speakers in the business world.
